Dear Father Matthias,
I am writing on behalf of the Christian Care Association to thank you all at St John Fisher Church for your wonderful donations of special holiday food and monetary gifts for our Christian Care Christmas Hampers in December 2020. We also send grateful thanks to Julie for her help in organising and Deacon Tom for kindly delivering the gifts. By joining our appeal once again, you have brought joy and hope to 43 struggling families in Merton who would otherwise not have been able to have a special Christmas celebration at home. We received many heartfelt messages of thanks from parents whose children's eyes lit up as they unpacked this year's supersize hampers! Delivering 43 hampers was a record for us and thanks to your generosity, in addition to the Christmas card, holiday food and shopping tokens for fresh food, we included toys for the younger children and gift tokens for teens.
As you know, our charity has been supporting people in crisis for over 50 years with food, clothing, baby items, furniture and special events for children and families. Last year alone we assisted over 160 families. COVID has brought even more emergency requests on top of the regular monthly support we give to around 20 families and a Refuge in Merton. Our volunteers have been faithfully delivering food and essentials to many doorsteps over the past months, as well as telephoning to keep in touch. This has been a great encouragement to all in these difficult days of loneliness and isolation. With God's help, we are looking forward with faith and hope to a new and better year in 2021! May God bless you all and keep you safe.
With heartfelt thanks,
Family Support Coordinator
